Your Guide to Safe and Enjoyable Adventures!

Are you planning a trip but unsure about how to travel with your furry friend?

Pre-Trip Planning

  • Research Pet-Friendly Accommodations: Find accommodations that welcome pets, considering factors such as pet policies, available amenities, and nearby pet-friendly attractions.
  • Check Travel Requirements: Familiarise yourself with travel regulations, including vaccinations, health certificates, and any specific documentation required for your destination.
  • Pack the Essentials: Bring your pet's food, medications, favourite toys, leash, waste bags, grooming supplies, and a comfortable blanket or bed to help them feel at home.

Safe Travel by Car

  • Secure Your Pet: Use a pet carrier, harness, or travel crate to ensure your pet is safely restrained and cannot distract the driver.
  • Take Breaks: Plan for regular stops to provide water, allow bathroom breaks, and let your pet stretch their legs. Never leave your pet unattended in a parked car.
  • Car Comfort: Create a cozy and comfortable space for your pet by using familiar bedding or a travel bed. Avoid letting them stick their heads out of windows, as it may be unsafe.

Air Travel

  • Research Airline Policies: Understand the specific requirements and policies of the airline you are traveling with, including carrier specifications, health certificates, and check-in procedures.
  • Choose a Pet-Friendly Carrier: Select a well-ventilated, secure, and appropriately sized carrier that meets the airline's guidelines for in-cabin or cargo travel.
  • Prepare Your Pet for the Flight: Help your pet get used to the carrier beforehand by gradually introducing them to it and associating it with positive experiences.

Pet-Friendly Accommodations

  • Confirm Pet Policies: Ensure your chosen accommodation allows pets and understand any specific rules or restrictions, such as size limits or additional fees.
  • Explore Pet-Friendly Amenities: Look for accommodations that offer pet-friendly services, such as designated play areas, walking trails, or nearby pet-friendly attractions.
  • Pet-Proof the Room: Take precautions to pet-proof your room by removing any hazards, such as toxic plants or small objects that could be swallowed.

Health and Safety

Update ID Tags: Make sure your pet's ID tags have your current contact information, including a phone number where you can be reached while traveling.

Carry Health Records: Bring copies of your pet's vaccination records, health certificates, and any necessary medications.

Locate Emergency Vets: Research and note down the contact information of emergency veterinary clinics or hospitals near your travel destination.

Safe travels and happy tails!
